Care for your tools

Our hand forged knives and tools are crafted from carefully formulated carbon steel alloys which provide excellent strength, wear resistance, and edge holding capabilities. They are not, however, “stainless” in any regard and need to be cleaned and dried after each use. Especially, don’t leave our tools out in the rain or snow or wash in a dishwasher: that voids your warranty.

Light surface rust can and will develop on tools that are not used regularly and can be polished away with extra fine steel wool or polishing pads like we provide in our Tool Care Kit. Wiping your tool with a light oil such as Mineral Oil or “3 in One” oil will help prevent rust. We strongly recommend against using motor oil.

Your handle will gradually change coloration over time, this is normal. Use of a good wood conditioning wax will help keep your handle in good shape. Our handles are natural hardwood and will be damaged by excessive exposure to water, so never wash them in a dishwasher and keep them out of rain or snow.

All steel tools will gradually develop a patina over time. This is a surface coloration that varies from deep black to light brown depending on use and the soil chemistry in your area. This is completely normal and expected, enjoy your unique look!

Our tools are not designed for use with extension pipes: this will damage the handle and the blade and may cause breakage. Use of any sort of extender will void your warranty.

Do not hit the blades or ends of our tools with a hammer: this will damage the handle and the blade and may cause chipping o r breakage. Striking our tools with a hammer voids your warranty.
